Meet Matau Media

Stories told with purpose, care and craft.

Matau Media is an independent video production company based in Aotearoa New Zealand. Built on storytelling, relationships, and care for people and community, we work across commercial, broadcast and community spaces to produce high quality videos that balance strong ideas with thoughtful execution, to reflect both purpose and craft.

From concept to delivery, our process is collaborative, detail-focused and shaped by years of experience, which allows us to create videos the communicate clearly, connect both emotionally and intellectually, and stand the test of time.

Our Values

At Matau Media our values are more than just words on a page: they shape how we work, how we tell stories, and how we treat the people around us. The founding principles of Matau Media are to do good, to do our best, and to deliver real value and benefit to our clients and to our communities.

We believe strong relationships, care for people, and a sense of genuine responsibility to our communities leads to better work and to better outcomes. By working with empathy, respect, and curiosity, we aim to create stories that are not only well crafted, but also meaningful, useful, and enduring.

01

Be Kind

Compassion, empathy, and manaakitanga are what we constantly strive for in everything we do, and form the core of our kaupapa at Matau Media. Above all else, be kind.

02

Be Respectful

We value people, relationships and dignity across all cultures, and take the time to listen, understand and uphold the mana of each and every one of our clients.

03

Be Creative

Creativity can't thrive in isolation, it flows from collaboration and openness and brings together different perspectives to find effective and original ways of telling meaningful stories.

04

Be Useful

Our work is guided by purpose, and we are always willing to go the extra mile to properly understand and communicate every clients story and kaupapa to deliver genuine value in all we do.

05

Be Curious

Creativity requires curiosity, and we love learning about new things! We treat every new project as an opportunity to learn, grow, and refine our skills and knowledge.

06

Be Safe

Safety is a culture, not just a form to fill out, and demands respect. Wherever we are working we priorities safety at all times to ensure everyone can work effectively.

Our Story

Matau Media was founded in 2021 in beautiful Hawke's Bay by Tom Fisher, with one simple principal in mind: everyone has a story worth telling.

Since then, we have continually built our scope and earned the trust of both our clients and community, and now serve clients scattered all over Aotearoa New Zealand. Along the way our team has grown too: we regularly collaborate with a small squad of extraordinarily talented creatives to ensure each and every project is perfect. Since the begining however, the principle hasn't changed: Thoughtful stories, carefully crafted.

Professional Videographer Tom Fisher

Tom has well over a decade of experience working within New Zealand's media landscape, having worked in leading roles with some of the the highest profile production studios in the country. If you've watched prime-time kiwi television in the past decade, you're probably already familiar with his work!

With his years of experience and a few international awards already under his belt, Tom decided in 2021 the time was right to raise his own flag, and Matau Media was born.

Yoda

Every editing suite needs someone unafraid to give a purr or a yowl when needed, and Yoda is never bashful about giving his feedback during creative sessions. When he's not falling asleep in the Assistant Editor's chair Yoda enjoys battling imaginary monsters, complaining about never having enough treats, and practicing the art of being a criminally insane cat.
